“Color is an integral element of our world, not just in the natural environment but also in the man-made architectural environment. Color always played a role in the human evolutionary process. The environment and its colors are perceived, and the brain processes and judges what it perceives on an objective and subjective basis. Psychological influence, communication, information, and effects on the psyche are aspects of our perceptual judgement processes. Hence, the goals of color design in an architectural space are not relegated to decoration alone.” – Frank H. Mahnke
Color is a sensory perception. Therefore, it has holdings that are symbolic, associative, synesthetic, and emotional. When designing a space, it is vital to take in the consideration of knowing how the reception of visual stimulation, its processing and responses produces with the best possibilities for the welfare of human beings. This is most important in varied environments, such as medical and psychiatric facilities, offices, production plants, correctional and educational facilities, etc. Each pigment holds different tasks and functions within and around spaces.
More often than not, we get caught up on colors, the relationship between them, and how to make them come together whether it’s in our homes, our experience shopping in retail stores, on our nails or perhaps the exterior of our cars. We tend to over-question ourselves in our decisions with color. In reality, so many various colors can be placed together and still create cohesion. It’s really amazing the personalities that the colors take on when surrounded by other various hues. The image above is a great example of like and unlike colors coming together to create their own palette of one color-scheme or theme. Throughout the image, you can find one color in various palettes. The same exact color is pasted from one palette into another, creating a completely different blueprint between the two palettes. Pretty interesting, huh?
